About me

Hi, I’m Coralie, the woman behind Myrkra Staðr.

Originally from France, I uprooted myself when I was 20years old and moved to Scotland.
I’ve studied languages, jewellery making and hold a BSc in Chemistry and a MFA in in Arts and Crafts with Specialization in Metal Art. I worked as a laboratory analyst, model, TV extra and language tester for video games. I can speak fluently French and English, a little Swedish, and I know a little bit of Welsh and Japanese.

I lived in Scotland for about 7 years, and it’s there that I “grew up” as an artist. I am now rooted in the Swedish countryside with my fiancé, where I have a studio which I hope to also use as a shop in the future, maybe even hold workshops!

I am deeply interested in myths, traditional crafts, and all that we can learn from the past. I believe that we are uprooted from what used to be a cyclical living, following the seasons of our bodies and of nature. I chase the whispers of the past, the rhythm of the hands, the storytelling by the fireplace… gestures repeated again and again by my ancestors over generations.

Myrkra Staðr

Myrkra Staðr was born in Scotland in 2016, in a time of struggle.

To me, it is a symbol of finding one’s inner strength when hope disappears, when darkness takes over.
For there is no obscurity without light, there can be no light without darkness.

Myrkra Staðr was hope for me. At the time, I had been diagnosed with a chronic illness who suddenly got worse in a few months. I was unable to work and mainly bound to my bed, in pain. It was a very hard time for me, where I questioned my life, my choices, my purpose. I decided to fight with everything I had. Not just to get better, but also to live a life with meaning.

It was a long way back to health, slowly changing and improving my life, my environment. I then worked jobs part-time (sometimes fulltime) and spent my spare moments making jewellery & selling at markets. Thanks to all the support I received, I managed to transition to be a full-time artist in 2020.

These last 2 years (2021-2023) were spent getting my Master’s degree in Fine Art, which I completed with my project and thesis called Standing Within

Through this journey, my health and wellbeing became a priority. I believe I gained a new perspective, that shifted my views on life. I believe that we, as humans, are disconnected from nature, from her cycles and our own bodily cycles.

As I created a space of slowness and intentional living in my life, I wish to offer the same here. A space against this fast-paced world, an escape from the rhythm of modern life, a place to take time and reflect.
